Hi Friends!
We’re wrapping up learning about Arctic Animals and I wanted to share what we did together to help bring this theme to life! This was a fun one to do for February and I can’t wait to revisit this play theme next year.
What We‘re Doing: Our theme for February was Arctic animals! There are lots of animals that live in this habitat I chose polar bears for the boys to focus on. I created a fine motor and a sensory play activity for my oldest and of course lots of reading for my baby boy!
Polar Bear Fine Motor Activity: Using an old Huggies wipes case I made a polar bear for my two year old to drop goldfish in. Though polar bears mainly eat seals they do eat fish on occasion so it worked, haha! You can use a shoebox or even an old oatmeal container wrapped in white paper to make your own polar bear. Y'all know I love minimal and cost effective activities that maximizes learning. I found all of the materials to make our polar bear within our home! Isaiah does really well with these types of activities and he liked putting the goldfish in and out and eating them of course!

Ice Sensory Play:
We also talked about how the arctic is cold. Temperature is a concept I had yet to really explore with Isaiah so I was excited to show him what cold looked and felt like! I filled a bowl with ice, gave him a cup of warm water and let him have at it! He was really interested in seeing the ice melt and what it sounded like! He poured water in the bowl and watched the ice disappear. this is a really basic way to doing a frozen sensory bin with toys included and next time I’d love to do some frozen layers of ice alternating with gator aid and water all frozen together

What We’re Learning (Play Theme)
The Arctic is home to many animals! Its cold in climate with icy waters. The arctic Animals we focused on are polar bears!
