4 Ways To Add Learning To Your Day As A Busy Working Mom

Updated: Oct 18, 2020

Hi Friends!

How‘s the school year going for you? We just started our learning time back up with homeschooling just once a week on Saturdays. I spend half of the day working with Zeke and the other half with Isaiah. It‘s been hard because we’re used to doing so much more than now and I’m trying not to feel guilty for working and not teaching my children as much as I used to.

I wanted to make this blog for busy moms like myself who still want to make the most of your time with your children and have those enriching moments while working around a job and maintaining a home. Here are a few things I do, I hope these are helpful for you too!

Utilizing Media: I have now outsourced storytime, music and movement time as well as circle time through youtube! In the mornings I put on Songs For Littles that has incredible music classes, circle time and stories! The boys will now watch a video from that channel or one similar (if you’d like a list of other YouTube channels we watch I wrote a blog on it!) Isaiah has learned motions to his favorite songs and learned a few new ones too! I now do this while getting ready for work and can usually join in on the fun before I leave for the day.

Talk, Talk, Talk! When I am home on the weekend I do try to make sure to talk as much as possible! It really feels like I’m talking to myself but just the other day I heard Isaiah say several new words! Kiddos need exposure to as much language and thankfully for us they are really good at absorbing EVERYTHING! Explain what you’re doing, what they are doing or the fun plans you have lined up for the day!

Let Them Help When Possible: Include your children on practical tasks around the house. It may not be done perfectly by them but they are learning and spending time with you! I let the boys help with laundry, throwing items away and helping me make the bed. It is a pretty one sided partnership but there is sure to be lots of giggles!

Invest In Activities Rather Than Toys: We already have quite a few toys here at my home and now I’m more interested in activities we can do together. I purchase items the boys would be interested that promotes bonding and lots of conversation. Play Doh, Puzzles, Bubbles, Coloring, Science Kits and Art Projects are a few that Isaiah and I like to do, with a busy schedule it‘s nice to just pick something from our stash and get right into it rather than planning an activity when time is already on short supply! More time for learning and fun. I find all of my activities at the dollar tree!
