Our Favorite Books For Bedtime

Updated: Sep 14, 2020

Hi Friends! Today I’m sharing my favorite bedtime books for babies and toddlers. These are my boys favorite stories to read at night. They are short stories and oh so darling! All of the books are great if you want to squeeze just a little more language in but not make it overwhelming. I’ve found great talking points to help expand the story- or if I knew they were already beyond tired, I just kept it simple! I provided links to Amazon so you can get right to shopping if you’re interested in picking up a few of these books yourself.

Why Read At Night? Multiple studies have proven that reading enriches language! I have a 2.5 year old who has a speech delay and can use all of the language exposure he can get. My 12 month old says three words and definitely needs more! Reading can help foster their imagination and develop a deep appreciation for stories, encourages engagement and conversation between parent and child. Books spark new ideas, thoughts, concepts and ways of life! I usually choose 3-4 short stories to read to the boys that usually ends up being around 15 minutes long. How many books do you like to read to your kids before bed?

The Going To Bed Book: Zeke’s favorite book that follows a boat load of animals at sea getting ready for bedtime.

Who‘s Knees Are These?: I love this book for the boys and happened to find this gem for fifty cents at a thrift store! This story is so charming and has the narrative of the mom speaking to her little boy. So sweet and a beautiful book to read to your son at night.

Little Blue Truck: I had to include little blue truck, such a great book and the kids love all the animals and animal sounds inside. There is a great message and rhythm to the book that keeps it in the top four pile of books to read every night!

Curious George Goes To The Zoo: This book is adorable! A classic curious George story that follows him to the zoo! Zeke loves this book and it's a great story about George meeting different animals, including a baby rhino!
