Hi Friends!
This post is incredibly late but I still wanted to get it out for you all on how we’re going about teaching Isaiah handwriting skills. Homeschooling has been quite the challenge over the last few weeks due to an increase of work hours from my job. I did sit down with Isaiah and was able to spend 45 minutes working on handwriting because this is a big goal we have in place for him to start building more hand strength. For those who may be new to the blog my oldest son Isaiah is autistic and was diagnosed this past summer. Autism is a super power but also can come with its challenges and for Isaiah fine motor skills come harder for him than the typical three year old. As his mother I am doing my best to help him as much as possible with practicing his weaknesses as much as he is willing to help aid in his development. Definitely easier said than done! For his birthday he was blessed with a magna doodle that we have been using to trace lines and practice circles. During our last homeschool session we did lots of hand over hand practice to help him get familiar in copying. We have also been loving wipe clean books and have been tracing in them for a few months now. We have the Usborne beginning pen control book that is great but I think it may be a bit overwhelming for him so I am looking for something else that’s simple for him to do- if you have any suggestions let me know!
I was also able to snag a super easy preschool book from the Target dollar spot that has color and tracing work in it. We tried it out during our last session and he did really good and I was very proud of him being able to follow directions and do a few pages correctly instead of just scribbling all over the page like he usually does! Again, thats such a huge accomplishment for him! We will be continuing working on handwriting and I’m excited to see him write his name, letters and numbers in the future.
