Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! Who remembers reading his stories in school? I find it so crazy the same books I enjoyed are the same ones my kids will grow up loving. On Monday we celebrated Dr.Suess day with a simple activity. We own lots of Dr. Suess books and I wanted to come up with something that my two year old can do that was free and low prep. I chose "Fox In Socks" to read, being mindful to show him the silly socks on the fox in the book any chance that I could. Isaiah calls socks "shoes" haha! so he would show me his shoes if I didn't get to it first. I love how his mind is already making associations like that!
After the story I pulled out a few pairs of socks for him to practice putting on his socks and taking them off. Isaiah is in a phase where he wants to do everything he sees my husband and I do. I caught him one day trying to open our bedroom door with my car key! Putting on shoes are no exception, he'll randomly get a shoe out from the closet and try his best to put it on himself. Most times he ends up calling for help so on this day I wanted to foster that natural curiosity with socks! Encouraging self help is a bit challenging especially when your toddler is used to you doing it for them. I hated to see him struggle but he now can at least put his socks over his toes! I love finding ways to bring books to life and this was a great way to do something a little extra special for one of our favorite authors.
